This is not the first book I read but I a book that I did gain some sweet information from. Dr. Libby Weaver, from Melbourne, published the novel Women's Wellness Wisdom. It is a research based, colorful, insightful, information and empowering book that I read just a few months ago.
Dr. Libby goes over several topics ranging from healing the importance of organic foods, healing herbs, oestrogen & liver connection, skin, stress & its impact on the automatic nervous system, hormone disruption, etc. Here are a few parts that I enjoyed learning about and want to share with you all!
For one, I had always heard both ends of whether or not organic agriculture is actually important (not in regards to clothing). I've heard that there isn't a difference and that there is a huge difference. In this book, she talks about how going organic food down the soil, how organic farming actually holds the nutritional value that we need to obtain from our vegetables and fruits. With the amount of pesticides and toxins that is put into agriculture now a days those essential nutrients needed for our survival and stability are no longer present. In organic farming, there hasn't been the impact of those toxins to damage the soil that makes the fruits and vegetables grow. Additionally, when we shop organic we are supporting the health of farmers, which I wish I would've connected when I was learning about sustainable and ethical fashion. If modern agriculture is using pesticides and other toxins to farm, that means that those chemicals aren't only ending up in the soil, onto the fruits & vegetables and into our systems when we eat them but they are going to be impacting those farmers directly. Furthermore, farming organically is expensive and when you shop for these products you are supporting these farmers that are doing the right thing by the environment and by us.
However, I love the idea of being able to obtain all my products organically I know its not plausible for me and majority of people out there as it is expensive. Dr. Libby suggests soaking certain fruits and vegetables in water and vinegar for the sake of your own health. This is what I do with things like my apples and cucumbers at the moment because I want to protect my health but can't afford organic food at the moment in my life.
Another interesting section is the power of healing herbs something that I have always found quite interesting however, didn't know much about. She lists out a page that shows some of the importance of things like magnolia, chaste tree, lemon balm, etc. One that I often find in my other readings is the power of turmeric, which is a great anti-inflammatory for one and one that I put in smoothies and tea occasionally.
If you are living in today's world, so many people have oestrogen issues as it feels almost impossible not too if we aren't cautious of how we are living. The section that goes over the liver and talks about how our livers literally detoxify our body of outside chemicals. From my understanding, both women and men need oestrogen in their system yet, it is incredibly important to have the right levels of all hormones but especially this one. Basically, when we take in any amount of food our liver is one of the organs that takes in the main nutrient that is needed for your body which is amazing! Once your body has reached what it's need for example, once it has obtained enough Vitamin D and B12 it sends the left over or the excess to the 'exits of the body.' The exists consist of sweating, pooping and peeing. When there is excess oestrogen, our body does the same thing by sending it to these areas to expel it. However, if your liver isn't working properly then this doesn't happen! Great chapter and if you are interested into understanding this more definitely look into this book, lots of great information.
I have suffered from anxiety, depression and PTSD; with the side effects of birth control actually making these worse. There is a whole section called, Mind, how our mental health impacts our physical health and vice versa. Furthermore, it gives you suggestions of how to make these dilemmas better such as yoga, the beautiful power of meditation, exercising, etc.
Okay, now this is not the whole book and even the sections I've talked about this isn't the whole picture that Dr. Libby has highlighted. I'm so grateful for the information that I've gained.
I hope that this gives you a little bit of information that may impact your choices and also give you a good read if you are interested! I've enjoyed learning more about organic foods and liver detoxification! Let me know what you think and if you've found some other great information that relates to this article!
