This is a term that is thrown around a lot lately and that is because it is super common to have this issue.
Estrogen dominance:
-Frank estrogen dominance happens because of toxins within the environment or really poor detoxification in the liver or through bowel movements.
-Another common one is relative estrogen dominance is when there isn't enough progesterone in relation to the estrogen produced within your body.
I personally have not been tested for estrogen dominance because I can't afford the Dutch Test at the moment as it is quite expensive. I do hope to get it one day but right now, after taking the quiz in, Beyond the Pill by Dr. Jolene Brighton, highlighted that I have too much estrogen and too little progesterone. I am also able to see this in my cycle charts, I am able to notice this because often after I ovulate, it is quite difficult for my body to maintain a high enough temperature and I often fall below the cover line along with PMS.
Aso, I have issues emptying my bowel. I have never been such a huge advocate for pooping until I went to a gastro doctor who told me, "Your colon and rectum are so stretched I am not even sure that after a cleanse they will return to the size they are meant to be." Let me tell you, the minute I did that colon cleanse I FELT 100% BETTER! I don't think people realise what I mean by oh I was just super constipated. No. I was having panic attacks for 8 months, heart palpitations, chest pressure & pain, upper back pain, and neck pressure that many doctors thought was anxiety. The minute I did that cleanse, everything went away. I mean truly went away. Now, I still struggle with constipation because they found heaps of endometriosis on my bowel and rectum, hence why my body struggles to push a bowel movement out and why when I do poop, my ovaries really hurt. I still have to take alternatives just to get a poop daily and this is just two poops and it's not enough by the end of the week. The minute I start having chest pain I can tell that I am constipated and have to do a cleanse and it feels amazing afterwards.
Pooping is extremely important to getting toxins out of your body! When your liver has obtained enough of the estrogen that it needs, it gets rid of excess estrogen (and everything else that is needed in the body) it is pushed towards your bladder, skin, and bowel to get rid of. I am a sweater, I actually over sweat and I over pee but this makes sense because without bowel movements, everything is getting backed up and held within my system. If you are not at least pooping 2x a day, please go see your doctor. It is so important!
In Beyond the Pill, Dr. Brighton leaves some great recommendations for those that may be experiencing estrogen dominance.
-Avoid xenoestrogens- this means that you should drink from glass bottles only and metal straws and please, use glass containers. Staying away from as much plastic as you can is ideal.
-Eliminate Alcohol: Yes, I know. Girl what? Alcohol? Yes, one drink of alcohol can jump the striven up by over 10%. Cut it out at least for now.
-Go through the products in your house as they likely have chemicals in them that are disrupting your endocrine system. You can also visit the Environmental Working Groups website and check their personal care items to make sure you're doing the best for you and/or your family/friends/
-Supplements like DIM, chrysin, and Calcium-D-glucarate aids the metabolism of estrogen. Black cohosh and vitex are also great, I currently use vita and have met other women and have had great results with it.
-Considering taking melatonin especially if you have troubles with sleeping but is also a great antioxidant. Also, low melatonin has been associated with a breast cancer risk.
Thanks for visiting! Hope to talk to you all soon (:
