Have you been suffering from menstrual cramps for ages and the only answer that your doctor will give you is to get on birth control? This was me. I have suffered from pain cramps since I was 11 years old and the doctor told me I had two options, get pregnant or get on the birth control. Obviously I wasn't going to have a baby so I ended up on the pill which allowed for relief for about 3 years and then the pain was back!
The past few months I have been experimenting with different cramp relief methods! Here are a few of the things that I have tried based off of research the past few months.
1. P-2 Detox,
This product I found at Govita (Australia) and it had been recommended to me by another employee there that had been suffering from endometriosis her whole life. It had a mixture of broccoli sprouts, turmeric, broccoli and other forms of anti-inflammatories mixed into a form that I could put into my morning juice and drink. The P-2 detox is mainly to assist with liver detoxification. Many of us with painful menstrual cramps either have endometriosis, fibroids or high prostaglandin levels which cause our uterus to contract more than it should when we menstruate and if you didn't know, all of these issues have something to do with too much estrogen built up within our bodies. The liver breaks down all of the thins that we need to survive and gets rid of the things that are harmful to us or at least it should. If it is not working properly, it gets overwhelmed and doesn't function properly leading to or creating further issues with reproductive issues like endometriosis or fibroids. Supporting your liver is key and the P-2 detox is meant to help this greatly. The only unfortunate thing about the product is that it is quite expensive but I have noticed a major difference in it!
2. Magnesium
It's great for promoting sleep and also helps with muscle relaxation! When I went to the doctor, they reported that my magnesium levels were entirely normal by a conventional medical standard. However, when I began taking magnesium supplementation during the day for about 2 months, I started my period and questioned whether it was truly my period because I had little to no cramps at all! Additionally, a form of magnesium called Magnesium Citrate is well-known because it can be used as a laxative. Now, this can be harmful but for me this is helpful because I have endometriosis growing all around my bowel and rectum so my bowel movements never pass easily enough. Magnesium Citrate works really well for me as a laxative and rids of the excess oestrogen that builds up in my poop that I can thus get rid of, leading to less painful cramps!
3. Women's Balance by Ancient Wisdom Modern Medicine
I take women's balance which is full of different kinds of natural herbs! I did question it at first but I knew that I did believe there was a lot to Chinese medicine that I was willing to give it a go and have met other women that use it also! It's amazing! I take it once a day and it also has helped reduce the pain with my cramps and I would assume that some of those herbs are great for reducing cramps and also supporting the liver! Some of the many herbs in this product are White Peony, Dong Quai, Licorice, and Ginger.
4. Vitex
I think almost all of us have heard of Vitex because it is renown for helping balance progesterone levels and leading to lowering oestrogen. I originally took this to help lengthen my luteal phase because it was less than 12 days and I am still only sitting at about 10 days but I will say that I do believe this is also another great product that has helped with my cramps! There have been some reviews saying that women with endometriosis benefit while they are on it however, the minute they come off of it their cycle goes right back to where it was. I haven't gone off of it yet, but when I do I will keep you all updated!
So far these have worked for me. I have also bene taking an iron supplement, vitamin D probiotic and B complex due to some other issues that have popped up! Today I am also trying acupuncture and I will all let you know how that goes too!
If you have any suggestions of what has worked for you whether you do or don't have a reproductive health issue, let me know!
Xoxo,
Moonli
