I was going to post about seed cycling today, I thought it would be an interesting thing to cover as I have not tried it yet but keep coming across it in all of readings.
Instead, today I want to talk about sex trafficking.
I did a post earlier this week on my Instagram in regards to sex trafficking and I think this is something that really needs to be shared and discussed because many people are missing the markers.
Sex trafficking is under the umbrella of Human Trafficking which encompasses other forms such as organ trafficking, labour trafficking, animal trafficking, etc. I have never been a victim of trafficking but I have done a lot of work in this area and have seen this issue face-to-face with victims of it.
Women and children are the ones most impacted by sex trafficking and this happens all over the world. From the United States, to South Africa, to Thailand, to England. No country has been excused from this illegal inhumane behaviour unfortunately. Big events and cities that hold a large influx of people are common to have large amounts of sex trafficking that include the Super Bowl, the Sugar Bowl, the Olympics, and large soccer games around the world. Popular cities include Honolulu, New York City, London, Bangkok, Delhi, or even Tokyo. Where there are lots of people, there is going to be sex trafficking because pimps take advantage of what women and children they can get their hands on and the money that they can make off of this industry.
It's a sad industry and I've seen this while shadowing in a rehab house for minor girls of human trafficking in Columbus. I thought I was even ready to take on the trauma that these girls endured and I quickly found out that I wasn't.
There is a crazy amount of areas that I can cover in regards to sex trafficking but today, I want to talk about the porn industry and it's link to sex trafficking. Many people don't think there is a link but there is!
I began following an organisation called Fight The New Drug that published some of the following findings:
-'63% of underage victims of sex trafficking said they were advertised or sold online' (Thorn)
-In just 9 countries, '49% of sexually exploited women said that pornography was made while they were being sold for sex' (Rescue: Freedom)
Pornography is 'highly regarded' for it's ability to fuel what these abusers want. I worked with a small organisation in Columbus, OH that found a lot in regards to sex trafficking and porn in their own city. In 2017 (not sure if this has changed to date) they had found that traffickers were targeting young white females, specifically blondes. This was because this is what is currently being sold on the internet on pornography sites. They found this by arresting (mostly men) and asking them why they were on the street looking for sex and did they realise that most of those women weren't out there voluntarily? Most of them said no they didn't know that. They also said that they get lonely, watch porn and they want what they see online.
What you are supporting by watching porn is supporting the an inhumane industry that is booming. Furthermore, that porn you may be watching could be a victim that has not otherwise consented to this lifestyle, treatment, and sex that is being filmed and published online.
There was also a documentary on Netflix called The Traffickers where a young journalist went to Amsterdam, the well known city for it's Red Light District. She found by talking to many of those women, that those that were still working did not end up their voluntarily. That many of those women still worked under the pimp that trafficked them into that work from surrounding European countries.
We have to protect each other, defend each other, stand up for those that have no one else to, and to make a fucking permanent change.
Please, think before you choose to do something. Sex is nothing to be ashamed of, that is not what I am saying. But sexual assault/abuse and trafficking is 100% wrong, illegal, inhumane, downright degrading, and lacking of all human rights. Pornography is teaching young kids and adults that what they are seeing is okay, that hurting each other during sex is okay, that filming sex without someone's consent is okay, and sex trafficking is okay. It may not be clearly stated when you go to that porn site because why would it be?
Think Before You Act.
